2nd local woman was LV shooting victim

UPDATE: A candlelight vigil for the local victims of the Las Vegas shootings will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the Village Green Park in Garden Grove, Main and Euclid streets. In Huntington Beach, a vigil for Andrea Castilla, an HB resident also killed in the incident, will be held on Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Pier Plaza, located at Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway.

A second name has been added to the list of people with ties to Garden Grove who were killed in the mass shooting incident earlier this week in Las Vegas.

The first person was Carrie Barnette, 34, a 2001 graduate of Pacifica High School. Barnette, who worked at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim, had recently moved to Riverside.


But as officials identified other victims, it was revealed that Candice Bowers, a Garden Grove resident, was among the dead. The mother of two was initially considered “missing” until her identity was established.

A third victim of the shootings is Doug Cotter, 48, a Garden Grove resident who is a dockworker in San Pedro. He was shot in the arm, but the bullet traveled into his intestines. He was reported to be in critical but stable condition in intensive care.

Fifty-eight people were killed late Sunday and another 489 injured, according to the latest count. The gunman, Stephen Paddock, killed himself after opening fire with multiple weapons on the audience at a country rock concert. He was on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
