John Gibson put on another show of goalkeeping mastery Wednesday as the Anaheim Ducks defeated New York Islanders 3-2 at Honda Center. Gibson had 39 saves as the Orange County team improved its second to 2-1-1, good for five points and a tie for second place in the NHL Pacific Division.
The Ducks got goals by Andrew Cogliano, Rickard Rakell and Patrick Eaves. Cogliano also has two assists.
Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said “We relied on our goaltender to bail us out. Your goaltender can only do that so many times.”
The Ducks will be back in action on Friday, visiting the Colorado Avalanche. The team benefitted from the return of Ryan Getzlaf, who had an assist after missing a game with an injury. Anaheim is still waiting for center Ryan Kesler, who may be out until December, due to recovery from hip surgery.
