Freeway crash victims identified

TWO PERSONS were killed when struck by an auto on the Garden Grove Freeway near Brookhurst Street early Monday morning.

UPDATE: The Orange County Coroner’s office has identified the two people killed in Monday’s incident on the Garden Grove Freeway. They are Bryce Campo, 19, of Stanton, and Santiago Sanjuan-Macilla, 42, also of Stanton.

Two persons – one of them a Good Samaritan who stopped to offer help – were killed when struck by an automobile on the Garden Grove Freeway early Monday morning.

According to authorities, the deadly crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on the westbound lanes of the freeway near Brookhurst Street. A vehicle slammed into a wall and the driver – along with another person who was offering assistance – was struck and killed by another vehicle.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. They were not identified.

An investigation into the incident is underway. No arrests were made or citations issued, according to the California Highway Patrol, and neither alcohol nor drugs are considered to be factors in the crash.

All westbound lanes of the freeway were closed until 2:40 a.m. and all lanes were open after 5:20 a.m.
