Man dies after stabbing; suspect arrested

A MAN died from stab wounds suffered Saturday night in Garden Grove.

UPDATE: The victim in Saturday’s stabbing has died and a suspect has been arrested. According to Garden Grove police, the deceased is Ruben J. Murga, 25, of Santa Ana. The suspect, now booked and charged with murder, is Michael J. Martinez, 31, of Santa Ana. Murga died at UCI Medical Center in Orange from his wounds.

A man was hospitalized Saturday night with stab wounds after an “altercation” in Garden Grove. According to Sgt. Ray Bex of the GGPD, the incident took place in the 13300 block of Lily Street around 10:30 p.m.

Arriving police officers found a victim – described as an Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years old – lying on the sidewalk and bleeding from stabbings. He was treated at the scene by Garden Grove Fire Department paramedics and taken to an area hospital.

According to Sgt. Bex, investigators believe the victim was involved in “an altercation with  several people and was stabbed during that time.”

Lily Street is located in a tract northwest of Trask Avenue and Fairview Street in the southeast of the city.

The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or may have information regarding the incident is asked to contact the GGPD’s Crimes Against Persons’ Unit at (714) 741-5704.
