Nine local teams still alive in CIF-SS action

NINE AREA high school sports teams are alive in CIF-SS playoffs this week.

Nine high school athletic teams from the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster survived into the second week of CIF-SS winter sports playoffs and will be in action Tuesday or Wednesday, and perhaps beyond.

In boys’ basketball, Orangewood Academy will visit Covina in 4A action. In 5AAA, Garden Grove will host Santa Maria, while La Quinta visits Santa Clarita, all on Tuesday in quarterfinal action.

None of the area girls’ basketball teams survived, but Los Amigos will host West Valley on Wednesday in the Division 7 girls’ water polo semifinals.

In boys’ soccer, Santiago will visit Mira Costa in Division 2 play, while Garden Grove hosts Hart in Division 4, all in second round matches on Wednesday.

In girls’ soccer, Pacifica visits Camarillo in Division 3, while Los Amigos visits Immaculate Heart in Division 5 and Garden Grove plays at Rialto in Division 6, all in the second round on Tuesday.
