The chance to attend live theater often doesn’t seem within reach, with the expenses of day-to-day life: but Tony Award-winning South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa is giving the younger generation a unique opportunity to experience theater at a special price with their “MyStage” program.
With a free membership (at www.scr.org/tickets/mystage/mystage-sign-up-form) young adults ages 15 to 25 have the chance to see productions at SCR for the low price of $10 per ticket: not to mention, they can purchase two (2) tickets per performance, which may be used for a friend, date, or even a parent to attend. There’s even a MyStage guide online to keep parents aware of the content of the productions (though SCR is confident that the shows are appropriate for ages 15 and up.)
On Jan. 25, South Coast Repertory presented their “College Night” production of “Shakespeare In Love” — but while that first production has closed, more are in the works: coming up are the rock/comedy/mystery “Cambodian Rock Band,” playing from March 4-25 (including another special College Night, on March 8), and “Shrew!”, a modern spin on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” (if it were penned by a 16th century female bard.)
MyStage at South Coast Repertory affords an affordable opportunity for youths to discover the joys of live theater, and to inspire a love for stagecraft for years to come.
