Mariner kickers seeking CIF gold Saturday

THE PACIFICA HIGH girls’ soccer team will play for the Division 3 CIF-SS title on Saturday.

The Pacifica High School girls’ soccer team, already champions of the Empire League, will go for another cherished trophy Saturday when the Mariners take on the Flintridge Prep Rebels of La Canada in the CIF-SS Division 3 title game at Warren High School in Downey.

PHS made it to the finals thanks to a 2-0 win Tuesday in the semifinals against Centennial High of Corona. Mariner goals were scored by Audree Campos and Lisbeth Deloera.

Pacifica will go into the title game with a 21-3-3 record. Mike Sutton’s M’s are ranked 59th in the nation and 18th in the state, according to maxpreps.com

The Rebels, who defeated West (Torrance) High 3-0 on Tuesday in the other semifinal, are 23-4-2 under the coaching of Esteban Chavez. They are rated 77th in the nation and 27th in California.

Lions play for a title on Friday

On Friday, the Westminster High team will face South Pasadena in the Division 5 girls’ soccer title game at 5 p.m. The Lions qualified for the title game with a 4-1 win over Jurupa Hills on Tuesday. South Pasadena defeated Los Amigos 4-0.

The Lions are 21-3-3 and are coached by Tim Boyd. The Tigers, under Victoria Lathrop, are 20-3-2. Maxpreps.com has WHS rated 151st in the state and 383rd nationally, and SPHS at 96th and 238th.

General admission tickets to the championship games are $10.
