PACIFICA and Westminster each opened CIF SoCal regional girls’ soccer play Tuesday with wins.

The Pacifica High School girls’ soccer team advanced in the CIF Southern California Division 3 Regionals with a 2-0 win Tuesday against Mt. Carmel of San Diego in a match at the Michael Monsoor Stadium at Garden Grove High School.

Next up is the regional semifinal game on Thursday against Academy of Our Lady of Peace (22-1-2), also of San Diego, in another home game for the Mariners (22-4-3).

The semifinal winners will advance to the regional final on Saturday.

Westminster High’s team also advanced in its Division IV contest on Tuesday, besting Kingsburg 1-1 in a shootout in which the Lions outscored the Vikings 5-3 after regulation time.

The Lions (23-4-3) will play their semifinal game on Thursday against Paloma Valley (25-0-3). WHS will also advance to the final round on Saturday with a win.
