THE SUSPECTED bomber in the Austin area was killed Wednesday in an explosion.

The suspected bomber in a half-dozen incidents in Austin, Texas, blew himself up Wednesday. According to authorities, the man they believe is behind the explosions that took the lives of two people and injured four others – not counting himself – was 23-year-old Mark Anthony Conditt.

He was being pursued by a SWAT team when Conditt’s sports utility vehicle ran off the road into a ditch, and then explosives were ignited, killing him. Authorities cautioned that Conditt may not have acted alone, and that it’s possible that other explosive devices may be planted somewhere in the Austin area.

The first four bombings took place on March 2. A fifth exploded Tuesday at a FedEx distribution center near San Antonio, according to the Associated Press. A tape-recording left by the suspect is being considered by local authorities to be a “confession.”

Zuckerberg admits Facebook “mistakes”

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of the world’s largest social media platform, broke a five-day silence Wednesday when he spoke to the controversy about data from Facebook being illegally mined by Cambridge Analytica and being used in an effort to influence the 2016 presidential election.

If the company doesn’t do a better job of protecting its users’ private information, “we don’t deserve to serve you.” Among Cambridge’s clients were groups seeking to elect Donald Trump to the White House.”

Shares have dropped 8 percent, equivalent to $46 million of the company’s value.

Saccone concedes defeat to Democratic foe

DEMOCRAT Conor Lamb is the winner of a special election in the 18th Congressional District in western Pennsylvania (Conor for Congress).

More than a week after the special election to fill a vacant seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from western Pennsylvania, Republican candidate Rick Saccone finally conceded defeat on Wednesday.

Democrat Conor Lamb won the vote count in the 18th District by a margin of about 750 votes, but Saccone refused initially to concede. The race was considered significant because the district – typically Democratic – went heavily for Donald Trump in 2016.

Lamb ran as an independent Democrat, while Saccone hewed a strongly pro-Trump position. To regain control of the House in 2018, Lamb’s party must flip 24 seats from red to blue.
