ANAHEIM DUCKS defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in OT on Sunday.

In the struggle of tooth and claw, crown and bill, the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday again gained the edge with a 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche. That overtime victory puts them a point ahead of the Los Angeles Kings in the ongoing struggle for third place in the NHL Pacific Division.

The visitors from Denver built a 3-1 lead but the Ducks caught them and won it in extra time to improve their record to 41-25-13, worth 95 points compared to the Kings at 43-21-9 and 94 points, with the regular season nearly over.

It was the team’s third consecutive overtime victory. In their last 15 games at Honda Center, the boys in black-and-orange have won 12 times, lost one and had two overtime losses.

Ondrej Kase scored the winning goal 94 seconds into extra time to win the game for the home team. “I can pass it but it was nothing there,” Kase said. “So I just shoot the puck. I saw a little bit that he moved so I tried it short side.”

Andrew Cogliano scored in the first period to tie the game at 1, but the Avalanche scored the next two goals to build a 3-1 lead in the second period. But the Ducks rallied mightily with tallies by Adam Henrique and Ryan Kesler to tie the game and make Kase’s heroic score possible.

The Ducks are next on the ice on Wednesday hosting the Minnesota Wild.
