A tie for first place in the Empire League baseball race was broken today. Segerstrom defeated Ocean View on Friday to improve to 5-2 in GWL action, and the Seahawks dropped behind with a 4-3 record.
Also, Loara defeated Orange 7-1 to stay in the race.
Segerstrom is 14-5 overall, with Ocean View and Loara at 10-9.
Westminster (3-5 in league and 7-12 overall) moved out of the Golden West cellar with a 4-2 win over Santa Ana (2-5, 8-10).
In the Garden Grove League, La Quinta and Rancho Alamitos kept pace with each other in the GGL battle for first. The Aztecs (6-1, 11-7) defeated Garden Grove (3-4, 7-8) by 2-0 as Michael Nadeau pitched a two-hitter.
Rancho (6-1, 13-3), meanwhile, blanked Los Amigos 4-0.
In the day’s closest game, Bolsa Grande (3-4, 7-6) rallied late to defeat Santiago (1-6, 2-7) by 9-7. Jared Sung drove in three runs with a triple in the sixth and finished with four RBIs to spark the victory.
In the Empire League, Pacifica (2-0, 12-7) blasted Valencia 17-0. Jovanny Reyes pitched six strong innings, yielding just one hit and striking out five batters.
