The Garden Grove Police Department’s 31stAnnual “Call to Duty” Police Memorial will take place on Thursday, May 17, from 5. to 6 p.m. in front of the Garden Grove Police building, located at 11301 Acacia Parkway.  The annual service honors the five Garden Grove police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.  The memorial is open to the public.

For over three decades, the service brings together family, friends, and colleagues of Sergeant Myron L. Trapp, Officer Andy Reese, Officer Donald F. Reed, Officer Michael Rainford, and Master Officer Howard Dallies, Jr., as well as community organizations and the public, to pay tribute to the lives and ultimate sacrifices of these five fallen Garden Grove police heroes.

This year, the program will feature guest speaker, Officer Shaun Sandoval from the San Bernardino Police Department.  Officer Sandoval was a first responder to the December 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino.  He is also a former Garden Grove Police Department Explorer, Community Service Officer, and cadet.  The program will also include a helicopter fly-over.

The ceremony includes the ringing of the Memorial Bell, 21-gun salute, riderless horse, and formal presentations to the surviving families.  The Bolsa Grande High School Concert Choir will perform musical selections in honor of the occasion.
