The Huntington Beach Oiler softball team pulled off the upset of the year on Thursday as it defeated Los Alamitos 5-2 and knotted up the Sunset League race with one game left to play.
The Griffins (24-2) are ranked third in the state and ninth in the nation. The Oilers are 18-7 and 23rd in California and both are 8-1 in the SL, with one game remaining to play on Tuesday.
HBHS broke open a close game with five runs in the sixth inning. Grace Uribe (8-4) got the win for the orange-and-black.
Garden Grove 10, Santiago 1
The Argonauts clinched the Garden Grove League softball title Thursday, their last before moving to the Golden West League next year. Grove is 8-0 in the GGL and leads the rest of the pack by three games with two league games left to play.
