M’s, Oilers fall in softball quarterfinals

HUNTINGTON BEACH and Pacifica each lost CIF-SS quarterfinal softball games on Thursday.

The last two local teams in the spring CIF-SS playoffs were eliminated on Thursday as Huntington Beach and Pacifica each lost Division 1 softball

quarterfinals games.

Pacifica fell 3-0 to Chino Hills to finish the season at 20-11. Alani Nguyen had two hits to lead the Mariner offense. Julia Cabral pitched the complete game for PHS.

The M’s finished second in the Empire League this season.

Huntington Beach fell behind 5-1 but eventually lost 6-5 to Norco in nine innings. A key blow for the Oilers was a two-run triple by Malia Cockrell. Kelli Kufta tied the game with an RBI single in the seventh for the orange-and-black. HB finished at 21-9.

The Oilers earned a tie for first place in the Sunset League with Los Alamitos this year.
