THE ANIMATED musical movie “Coco” will be shown for free at the Sunken Gardens in the Westminster Civic Center on Thursday evening.

The Outdoor Movie Night series sponsored by the City of Westminster continues on Thursday with a screening of the animated musical film “Coco.”

It will be shown in the Civic Center Sunken Gardens, 8200 Westminster Blvd. Pre-movie festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. with games, crafts, face-painting, Folkloric dancers and music.

The movie will start shortly after sunset. Residents should bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Food trucks and carts will have food for sale. Admission and parking are free.

Body-building comes to HB library

A series of body-building competitions will be hosted on Saturday at the Central Library in Huntington Beach. Men and women will compete for a chance to win prizes and qualify for the World Fitness Federation Championships and represent the United States.

The event will run from 3-8 p.m. with competitions starting at 4 p.m. The price of admission is $39. Signups for competition are still open.

Author to speak at GG library

Sue Ann Jaffarian, writer of mystery, fantasy and romance fiction, will be speaking on the writing process and more on Sunday, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. in the Garden Grove Regional Library, 11200 Stanford Ave., at Euclid Street.

Home improvement program underway

Financial assistance to low and median income households to fix up their houses is being offered by the City of Stanton. The program is aimed at helping to make exterior repairs, improve the looks of the house and fix health and safety issues.

Improvements would include:

• Paint, stucco and siding repairs
• Replacement of windows and doors
• Energy efficient items, water heaters, furnace, low-flush toilets
• Installation of landscaping and irrigation
• Accessibility modifications for the disabled
• Other improvements approved by the city.

The program provides matching funds of up to $5000 to qualified low to moderate income homeowners with blighted conditions. For more information, call (714) 890-4228.
