Dozen seeking mayor, council positions

A DOZEN people have taken out nomination papers to run for office in Westminster.

The field of candidates for the offices of mayor and city council in Westminster has grown to an even dozen.

According to the city clerk’s office, one candidate has taken out nomination papers to run for mayor, and 11 for two spots on the city council.

So far, the only candidate for mayor is incumbent Tri Ta. However, the field is crowded for the city council. The list of hopefuls there – as of Thursday afternoon – is, as follows:

  • Mark Lawrence
  • Chi “Charlie” Nguyen
  • Frances Nguyen
  • Jamison Power
  • Amy West
  • Khia Dao
  • Randy Young
  • Thai Do
  • Samantha Bao Anh Nguyen
  • Jana Donnelly
  • Anita Rice.

So far, incumbent council members Tyler Diep and Margie Rice have not tossed their hats in the ring. Diep is involved in the race for the 72nd Assembly District seat as the Republican candidate.

Familiar faces running include Frances Nguyen and Power, both members of the Westminster school board, and Anita Rice, who serves on the city planning commission.

The deadline to submit completed paperwork is Aug. 10, but the deadline will be extended a week if any incumbent chooses not to run.
