“Despicable Me 3” coming to Atlantis

MINIONS will be on hand when “Despicable Me 3” is shown at the Atlantis Play Center in Garden Grove on Thursday, Aug. 23 (City of Garden Grove photo).

A free showing of the popular animated film “Despicable Me 3” will be held on Thursday, Aug. 23 at the Atlantis Play Center in Garden Grove. The screening will begin at 8 p.m.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with family entertainment including bounce houses, airbrush tattoos, photo opportunities with minion characters from the “Despicables” film series, movie trivia, and more.

Also, the first 200 children will receive free sunglasses.

No canopies, golf carts or alcohol is permitted inside the Atlantis Play Center.  Lawn chairs and blankets are allowed. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.

Two killed, four are hurt in freeway crash

In a pre-dawn crash Friday on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Westminster, two people were fatally injured and four others hurt.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place on the southbound freeway at the Beach Boulevard exit around 4 a.m. The crash was allegedly caused by the actions of a speeding black Honda.

Portions of the freeway were closed and traffic diverted. The names of the deceased have not yet been released by the coroner’s office.

Stanton city council to meet Tuesday

The Stanton City Council will meet on Tuesday with a closed session at 6 p.m.  followed by the public session.

Items on the agenda include approval of the final tract map for 35 single-family homes to be constructed at 8232 Lampson Avenue and the vacation of an alley between Main Street and Chestnut Avenue.

The council meets in its chambers at the City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave.
