JUSTIN UPTON was again the hero for the Angels Monday as they defeated the Padres 6-3 in 10 innings on Monday (Angels photo).

No baseball player wins a game all by himself, but Justin Upton came close on Monday in San Diego. The Angel left-fielder robbed a Padre batter of a home run with his glove and hit a three-run homer in the top of the the 10th inning to propel the Halos to a 6-3 win.

The victory allowed the Angels to return to .500 at 60-60.

Upton leaped to corral was seemed to be a sure three-run homer by Eric Hosmer in the eighth inning. 

“I felt like I had a chance at it,” Upton said. “Once I got to the track, I kind of felt where I was, and I had a better gauge for it. I just went up and caught it.”

That sent the game into extra innings, and in the 10th, Upton crashed his own four-bagger – his 25th of the season – to put the Orange County team ahead for good.

Andrew Heaney worked 7.1 strong innings for the Angels, giving up just four hits and two runs. He struck out six and walked one. The win went to Cam Bedrosian (4-2) in relief. He pitched one inning and gave up one hit.

The series with the Padres continues on Tuesday with Jaime Barria (7-7) going for the Angels against Brett Kennedy (0-1).
