Dia de la Familia is set for Saturday

The annual Dia de la Familia event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 in Sigler Park in Westminster. The event, sponsored by the City of Westminster, will run from 1-5 p.m. at the park, located at 7200 Plaza St.

Entertainment will include performances by the Las Tapatias Folkloric Dancers, the mariachi band Los Dorados de Chihuahua and the classic rock and Latin band DeNada.

There will be community information booths, a classic car display and food vendors. The city water division will provide water conservation ideas and giveaways.

Outdoor dining for Main Street mulled

An amendment to the city municipal code that would allow and regulate outdoor dining on one block of the city’s historic Main Street goes before the Garden Grove Planning Commission when it meets on Thursday.

Planners will consider allowing eateries on Main to offer outdoor dining, even if they serve alcohol. The proposed amendment specifies the size and outline of such a seating area, along with a requirement for a partial enclosure in the case of liquor sales.

The panel will meet in the council chambers in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave., at 7 p.m.

Checkpoint yields three DUI arrests

Three persons were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated this past weekend by the Huntington Beach Police Department.

According to the HBPD, a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint was set up at Main Street and Yorktown Avenue from 7 p.m. on Friday to 3 a.m. the following morning.

Eight hundred forty one vehicles went through the checkpoint, and 377 vehicles were screened. Three DUI suspects were arrested and another person was arrested on a different criminal charge.

Three drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended or revoked. Five citations were issued for other vehicle code violations.
