Construction contract OK’d for streetcar

A CONSTRUCTION contract for the OC Streetcar project was awarded Monday by the OCTA (OCTA image).

A contract for the construction of the OC Streetcar was awarded Monday by the Orange County Transportation Authority board of directors.

Walsh Construction’s bid of $220.5 million was selected to build the 4.1-mile route from central Santa Ana west and northwest to Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove.

The total cost of the project is expected to be $407 million, with funding coming from a mix of local, state and federal sources. Construction is expected to begin this year, with testing and operations starting 2021, according to the OCTA.

Tina-Pacific housing project on Stanton agenda

A public hearing will be held on Tuesday (Sept. 25) at the Stanton City Council on a proposed 83-unit affordable housing project in the Tina-Pacific neighborhood.

The council will consider several actions, including a disposition and development agreement with Tina Pacific I Housing Partners, LP for design and construction of the project.

The council meets at 6:30 p.m. in its chambers at City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave.

Hotels give $100,000 to local groups

Hotels in Garden Grove – through the Garden Grove Tourism Promotion Corporation – on Sept. 11 donated a total of $100,000 to four local non-profit organizations.

Checks for $25,000 each were awarded to:

  • Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove
  • Garden Grove Community Foundation
  • Helping Others Prepare for Eternity (HOPE)
  • Orange County Food Bank.

The presentation was made at the Marriott Suites on Harbor Boulevard at Chapman Avenue in the Grove District of the Anaheim Resort.
