Afternoon fire does $505,000 in damage

GARDEN GROVE firefighters fought a blaze Wednesday afternoon that did an estimated $505,000 in damage (GGFD photo).

A fire Wednesday afternoon in Garden Grove did an estimated $505,000 in damage to two homes and displaced five people.

According to Capt. Thanh Nguyen of the Garden Grove Fire Department, the blaze was reported in the 11600 block of Stephanie Lane around 1 p.m. It took firefighters from the GGFD and other agencies 45 minutes to get the fire under control.

Fire investigators determined that the fire was accidental and the cause could have been either an electrical failure of an appliance or the faulty use of an extension cord.

The first house to ignite was a total loss, with the structure damage put at $400,000 and the contents loss at $75,000. The adjacent house suffered about $35,000 in damage

Five persons were displaced and the Red Cross was requested to offer assistance to them. In addition to the GGPD, the fire was fought by units from Anaheim Fire and Rescue, Orange County Fire Authority and the Orange Fire Department.
