Fire sends 2 police officers to hospital

A fire early Tuesday morning in Garden Grove did an estimated $125,000 in damage and sent two police officers to the hospital.

According to Capt. Thanh Nguyen of the Garden Grove Fire Department, the incident was reported shortly after 7 a.m. in the 12000 block of Le Ann Drive.

Arriving firefighters saw flames showing from a single-story house and began attacking the fire and searching for residents. It was later determined that no one was in the building at that time.

It took 20 firefighters 23 minutes to get the fire under control.

Two Garden Grove police officers were first on the scene and tried to get into the building to search for residents. They suffered smoke inhalation and were treated by firefighter-paramedics, then taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Both were in stable condition and there were no other injuries reported.

Fire investigators are seeking to determine the cost of the blaze. Structural damage was estimated at $100,000 with $25,000 damage to contents.
