Garden Grove and Loara positioned themselves for possible league title games after posting football wins on Thursday night.
The Argonauts (8-1) defeated Marina by the score of 43-6 in a Big 4 game at Bill Boswell Field on the Westminster High campus. That put GG’s league record at 2-0. Assuming that Segerstrom (7-1 overall and 1-0 in league so far) defeats winless Westminster on Friday, the Argos and Jaguars will meet for the championship next Friday at Monsoor Stadium.
Loara (7-2 overall) improved to 4-0 in the Garden Grove League by defeating Santiago (now 5-4, 2-2) 28-14. If Rancho Alamitos (now 5-3, 3-0) defeats La Quinta (3-5, 1-2) on Friday, that sets up a title matchup between the Saxons and Vaqueros for the GGL crown.
Also on Thursday, Pacifica lost 26-7 to Valencia, dropping the Mariners (4-5, 2-2) into a tie with Tustin for third place in the Empire League. The blue-black-and-white will close out the regular season next week against Kennedy (2-6, 0-4).
In other area games:
• Cypress 20, Tustin 7.
• Katella 37, Savanna 0.
• Villa Park 63, El Modena 0.
