“Splash” becomes “Wavehog Day” Feb. 2

The International Surf Museum’s Surf City Splash on New Year’s Day in Huntington Beach was cancelled due to high winds, but the spirit of the splash will live on in Februar

“Wavehog Day” will combine Groundhog Day with getting wet on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. The $25 fee includes a one-year membership in the museum, a pancake breakfast, a costume contest with prizes and more.

Proceeds will benefit the museum, located in Huntington Beach. The Wavehog Day event will start at Zack’s at Pier Plaza, 405 Pacific Coast Highway.

Tickets will be available at the event, with cash and credit cards accepted.

Veteran OVSD teacher promoted to administrator

In the Ocean View School District, Circle View Elementary School principal Kristi Hickman will become the new teaching and learning coordinator for the OVSD.

The new principal at Circle View will be Jessica Haag, who most recently served as assistant principal at Spring View Middle School.

The OVSD is a K-8 district serving north Huntington Beach and portions of adjacent cities.
