Lobos kick into finals; Ducks post a win

THE LOS AMIGOS girls’ soccer team will play on Friday for the Division 5 CIF-SS title against Westridge High of Pasadena.

On a windy afternoon at Garden Grove High’s Monsoor Stadium, the Los Amigos High girls’ soccer team moved to within one game of the championship showdown.

The Lobos (20-3-1) defeated Thermal High of Coachella Valley 3-0 in the Division 5 CIF-SS semifinal to advance to the title game against Westridge High of Pasadena.

Los Amigos got two goals from Vidalia Abarca and one from Jennifer Rincon in the win for the Garden Grove League champions.

The orange-and-black will face Westridge (11-6-4) on Friday. The Tigers finished third in the Prep League.

Niedermayer honored, Ducks win big

Maybe the Anaheim Ducks should have retired star Scott Niedermayer standing by on a regular basis.

On the same night at Honda Center Sunday the team retired Number 27, the Ducks found their long-absent offense and defeated the Washington Capitals 5-2.

With the victory, the Orange County team has won two of three under interim coach Bob Murray and moved into sole possession of sixth place in the NHL Pacific Division with a 23-27-9 record, worth 55 points.

The Ducks got two goals each from Jakob Silfverberg and Adam Henrique and one from Corey Perry. Goalie Ryan Miller had 23 saves and recorded his 375th career save, the most-ever among U.S.-born goalkeepers.
