Lobos win CIF title; Ducks fall, 2-1

The Los Amigos High School’s girls’ soccer team won a first-ever CIF-SS soccer championship on Friday.

In the Division 5 final at Garden Grove High’s Moonsoor Stadium, the Lobos and the Westside Tigers fought to a scoreless tie in regulation and overtime.  The game was decided in the shootout with the orange-and-black outscoring the visitors from Pasadena 4-1.

Scoring for the Lobos were Judith Callesnoriega, Vidalia Abarca, Vanessa Sanchez and Tiffany Rodriguez.

Los Amigos, coached by Cassidy Abad, finished the season as Garden Grove League champs and with an overall record of 21-3-1.

Ducks cooled off in Calgary

After winning three of their first games after the All-Star break, the Anaheim Ducks came down to earth a bit on Friday, losing 2-1 to the Flames in Calgary. 

The sole Duck goal came at the 6:13 mark of the second period when Derek Grant scored to knot up the game at 1-1. Carter Rowney had the assist.

Ryan Miler had 26 saves in goal. The Ducks are now 24-27-9 with 57 points, putting them in sixth place in the NHL Pacific Division.

Next up for the Ducks is a game Saturday in Edmonton against the Oilers (25-29-6).
