Alcaron pitches Rancho to a 3-0 win

Senior pitching star Nathan Alcaron of Rancho Alamitos threw a one-hitter Friday afternoon as the Vaqueros defeated Santiago High 3-0 in the 2019 Garden Grove League baseball opener for both teams.

Alcaron struck out 13 batters as Rancho improved its overall record to 3-4. Last year the green-and-gold were the champs of the GGL with a 21-4 record overall, 14-1 in league.

Other GGL contests saw Loara best Bolsa Grande 8-0 and La Quinta defeat Los Amigos 7-2. On Tuesday, Rancho will visit Los Amigos while LQHS visits Loara and Bolsa Grande visits Santiago.

Also on Friday, Edison beat Corona del Mar 7-2 to improve the Chargers’ record to 7-3. They’ll take on district rival Marina on Wednesday and begin Sunset Wave League action next Friday (March 8). Huntington Beach improved to 6-1 overall with a 6-0 victory over Laguna Beach (7-2), Oiler starter Josh Halm struck out 10 batters over five innings.

Orange High dropped a 4-0 decision to Estancia, suffering its first Orange Coast League defeat of the season after two wins. The Panthers are 2-2 overall.
