In sad commemoration of the fall of the the Republic of (South) Vietnam in 1975, the Westminster City Council on Wednesday took several actions touching on events planned for the last week of April.
The fall of Saigon is widely referred to as “Black April” in the Vietnamese community.
The council voted 5-0 to approve permits to hold Black April commemoration ceremonies and memorials April 27-30 at Sid Goldstein Freedom Park at 14180 All American Way in the Civic Center.
Additionally, the council voted to declare April 23-30 as Black April Memorial Week, and to designate April to be Vietnamese-American month.
Also on Wednesday, the council approved the award of a contract to Carmody Construction Company worth $218,138 for the improvement of the Boys and Girls Club facility located at 14400 Chestnut St.
The next meeting of the council is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m.
