HBHS softball team no-hits Barons

HUNTINGTON Beach High’s softball team defeated Fountain Valley 10-0 on Thursday (Shutterstock).

The nation’s third-ranked high school softball team – Huntington Beach High – showed Thursday why it’s so regarded. The Oilers crushed Fountain Valley 10-0 in a non-league game shortened to five innings.

Now 6-0, the orange-and-black were led by the pitching team of Grace Uribe and Morgan MacBeath, who tossed a combined no-hitter. Hitting power was provided by Devyn Greer with a double and a triple. Uribe had two hits and Ameryn Humble two hits and three RBIs.

The Barons fell to 4-8-1 with the loss. HBHS will be back in action Saturday in the Best of the West  tournament.

Ducks run dry in loss at Arizona

The Arizona Coyotes crushed the Anaheim Ducks 6-1 Thursday night in the desert. Vinnie Hinostroza scored three goals in the lopsided victory for the home team.

Jakob Silfverberg scored the lone Anaheim goal, his 21st tally of the season. That’s the best on the team.

As a result of the defeat, the Ducks dropped back into seventh place in the NHL Pacific Division with a 28-35-9 record and 65 points.

Anaheim will be back in action Friday in Colorado to face the Avalanche (30-28-12, 72 points).
