Happy April! A new month with new possibilities. And we promise, absolutely no April Fool’s “news” in The Tribune. So let’s take a look at what this shining new week holds in store for us.
WEATHER:Springlike weather is with us. Weather will be partly cloudy on Monday, turning into mostly sunny on Tuesday, then cloudy through Friday. Chance of rain ranges from 10 to 20 percent Tuesday through Friday.
MEETINGS:Huntington Beach City Council will meet on Monday at 6 p.m. with three items of special interest. They are a) the appointment of an interim city manager, b) a notice to the city’s trash and recycling service of termination and c) a lease agreement for a planned 50-bed homeless shelter in an industrial area of the city.
MOVIES: Opening this weekend are these major releases:
- “Shazam” is a superhero flick based on the comic book characters. An orphaned boy discovers he can turn into a superpowered adult by saying the magic word. Rated PG-13 and starring Zachary Levi and Asher Angel.
- “The Best of Enemies.” Civil rights activist clashes with KKK leader over school desegregation in a story based on actual events. Starring Sam Rockwell and Taraji Henson. Rated PG-13.
- “Pet Sematary.” When beloved dogs and cats are buried in the woods near a small Maine town, they come back … but not very cuddly. Rated R. Based on the Stephen King novel.
SPORTS:The Angels are back in the OC with opening day at Angel Stadium on Thursday, opening a three-game series with the Texas Rangers.
ON STAGE:“American La Ronde” opens on Friday at the Stage West Theater on the Golden West College campus in Huntington Beach. Performances will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For more information, go to www.gwctheater.com.
AND BY THE WAY …This is spring break for students in the Garden Grove Unified School District, which serves most of Garden Grove and parts of Westminster and other nearby cities.
