Flames snuffed 3-1 in final home game

THE ANAHEIM DUCKS defeated the Calgary Flames 3-1 Wednesday in the final home game of the season (Shutterstock).

In the category of moral victories is the Anaheim Ducks’ 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames Wednesday night. The final home contest of the season, the Orange County team not only knocked off the NHL Pacific Division champion, but also moved into sixth place.

With one more game to play – Friday against the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center – the Ducks are 34-37-10 for 78 points. They’re two points back of the fifth place Vancouver Canucks.

Max Jones and Sam Steel gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. In the second period Ryan Getzlaf scored his 14th goal of the season.

In the nets, Ryan Miller made 26 saves.
