The streak is over.

In Chicago Friday night the Los Angeles Angels saw their six-game winning string snapped as they lost 5-1 to the Cubs in the opener of a three-game series.

Albert Pujols hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth, but that was all that scoring offense the Halos could muster as the team fell to 7-7. That puts the Orange County team in fourth place in the American League West, 5.5 games back of the Seattle Mariners.

The Angels, played without injured Mike Trout, managed just four hits, but the Cubs (5-8) touched Tyler Skaggs and the bullpen for 10.

Skaggs (1-2) struck out seven batters but yielded four hits, three of which were home runs. Noe Ramirez also gave up a dinger.

In Saturday the Angels will try again with Chris Stratton (0-1) against Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks (0-2).
