Loara High clinched no worse than a tie for the Garden Grove League baseball title with a convincing 16-0 victory over Santiago at home Tuesday. The Saxons are 12-0 in league with one game remaining to play. They’re 14-8 overall.
It was a pretty impressive effort, as the Saxons hammered out 17 hits in the win and yielded none. The two teams will complete their regular season on Friday at Santiago.
Second place Rancho Alamitos defeated La Quinta 8-1. Nathan Alcaron pitched six one-hit innings for the Vaqueros (11-1, 14-6). Anthony Ramirez had a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base for Rancho.
In softball play, Pacifica thumped second place Cypress 10-0 on Tuesday. The Mariners (7-0 in the Empire League, 13-3-1 overall) have a two-game lead with three games to play in the EL.
Alyssa Brito was 2-for-2 for the M’s, with two home runs and three RBIs. Julia Cabral pitched five innings and gave up three hits while striking out three batters.
Huntington Beach blanked Marina 4-0 in a key Sunset/Surf League contest. The Vikings are now 5-3 in league (16-7 overall) and the Oilers 6-4 and 15-7.
Grace Uribe threw a one-hitter for HBHS and went 2-for-4 with two home runs.
