Garden Grove and Pacifica high schools will combine on a production of the musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” to be staged this weekend at Don Wash Auditorium.

Performances will be Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m.  The auditorium is located on the campus of GGHS at 11270 Stanford Ave.

Tickets are $5 presale and $8 at the door. The presale price for groups of 10 is $40.

Music and lyrics are by William Finn, with the book by Rachel Sheinkin from an original idea by Rebecca Feldman.

It debuted on Broadway in 2005 and was nominated for five Tony Awards, winning two including Best Book. The play is set in a fictional middle school with six students and three grown-ups. There is some audience interaction, with several patrons asked to participate in the bee.
