Grand slam wasn’t grand enough in loss

JUSTIN BOUR rounds third and heads for home after hitting the grand slam home run in the eighth inning Tuesday, but the Angels lost 7-5 to the Yankees.

For the Los Angeles Angels it was a matter of a lot but just a little too late.

Justin Bour blasted a grand slam home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday night in Anaheim, but the Yankees nevertheless won the game, 7-5.

The Bronx Bombers touched Angel starter Chris Stratton for nine hits, four runs and two homers in five innings as the visitors built a 4-1 lead. They increased it into a 7-1 edge before Bour cleared the bases.

However, the loss pushed the Halo record to 9-15, still in fifth and last place in the American League West. The Angels have lost eight of their last 10 games and are six games out of first.

The Yankees outhit the Angels 14-8.  Stratton (0-2) was tagged with the loss, while Domingo German (4-1) got the win for the Yankees (13-10).

On Wednesday, Felix Pena (0-1) will start for the Orange County team, with CC Sabathia (1-0) on the mound for the Yanks.
