A 23-year-old Garden Grove man was sentenced Friday to a prison term of 26 years to life for the murder of another Garden Grove resident in 2015.
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Troy David Son was convicted on March 1 of first-degree murder with a sentencing enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon.
He was convicted in the stabbing death of Bryan Ortega, 19, on May 19, 2015 as the victim was riding his bicycle in the area of Avalon Avenue and Fairview Street.
According to the DA, it was an “unprovoked attack” in which Son – during the attack – dropped his knife, but went back to retrieve it and resumed the assault. No motive for the attack has been established.
