Long-time community leader Harry Krebs was honored posthumously Wednesday with the dedication of a memorial bench and obelisk in the Village Green Park in Garden Grove.

THE CLOCK TOWER in the park was one of Harry Krebs’ legacies.

The event was held near the clock tower at Main and Euclid streets, a community landmark that Krebs was instrumental in getting built.

Before the unveiling, remarks were made by Chamber of Commerce President Cindy Spindle, police chaplain James Scheller, Sandy Thomas of the Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Steve Jones, Community Foundation President Ric Lerma, Rotary Club leader Errol Giuliano and David Krebs, son of Harry.

The bench is inscribed with Harry’s name, a list of his involvements and the message “In Memory of Harry and his service to the City of Garden Grove.”

He served as a member of the City Council, as a police chaplain and as an officer and member of the Garden Grove Community Foundation and Garden Grove Rotary Club.
