Trout goes deep as Angels keep rising

MIKE TROUT homered and doubled Friday night, driving in three runs in the Angels’ 8-3 win over the Orioles.

Typically, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim don’t do that well on the road, but travel is really starting to agree with them. The Halos defeated the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards 8-3 and slipped into third place in the American League West as they posted their third win in four games.

Mike Trout excelled at bat and in the field. He hit his ninth homer of the season and smacked a double ending up with three runs batted in.

He also made a spectacular catch in center field that robbed the O’s of a homer.

Andrelton Simmons was brilliant as well, collecting four hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Four Angels in all had two or more hits.

Trevor Cahill (2-3) pitched well as a starter, working six innings giving up just four hits and two runs, one on a home run to Trey Mancini in the first inning.

Friday’s win put the Angel record at 18-20, two percentage points ahead of the Texas Rangers and just a half-game behind the second-place Seattle Mariners.

Hoping to leapfrog another position in the ALW, the Angels will send Matt Harvey (2-3) to the mound on Saturday in the second game of this three-game series in Maryland.
