COUNCILMEMBER Kim Nguyen has asked for a city council discussion on the idea of  flying the  “gay pride” flag at Garden Grove City Hall during June, which is Gay Pride Month (Wikipedia).

A discussion on the idea of flying the rainbow-colored LGBT flag – also known as the “gay pride” flag – for the month of June at the City Hall is on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Garden Grove City Council.

Councilman Kim Nguyen, who represents District 6, has asked for a discussion of the idea. The flag would be flown in June because that is Gay Pride Month. The origins of the movement for civil rights for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and the transgendered are traced back to June 1969, when the Stonewall Inn riots in New York City protested against police raids on bars and other locations catered to a same-sex clientele.

Events observing the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall incidents are planned for across the nation.

Also on the agenda are:

• the re-branding of the former “Buy BIGG” local shopping program as “Think BIGG,” as well as consideration of a new vehicle rebate program for Garden Grove residents;
• transmittal of the 2019 Downtown Parking Management Strategic Plan.

The council will meet in its chambers in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
