The Los Angeles Angels’ heavy artillery kept booming Saturday night, launching three home runs as they defeated the Seattle Mariners 9-2 in Anaheim. Mike Trout got his 30th homer of the season, Kole Calhoun his 20th and Albert Pujols his 14th.
Saturday’s win lifted the Halo record to 47-46. They remain in four place in the American League West, 11 games out of first and five games behind in the AL wild card race.
Matt Harvey (3-4) pitched 5.2 strong innings, giving up just four hits and one earned run. He struck out three batters and walked three.
“It’s been a good start for us for the second half,” Harvey said. “We just want to keep it going and keep that energy going and do it for our buddy over here [referring to Tyler Skaggs], try and finish the second half as strong as we can.”
He got plenty of help as the Angels rapped out 12 hits and built an early 6-0 lead. Pujols had four RBIs on a three-run home run and a single. Luis Rengifo had three hits and David Fletcher and Calhoun each had two.
The series will close out today (Sunday) with the Angels hosting the M’s at the Big A at 1:07 p.m.
