Eat a donut with a cop on Night Out

CAN YOU eat a donut faster than a cop? That’s one of activities scheduled from this year’s National Night Out on Aug. 6 by the Garden Grove Police Department. Other National Night Out Activities are planned in Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.

Ever wanted to become a police officer? Have a question about law enforcement? Want to alert police to a public safety issue in your neighborhood?

You chance to learn about police work is coming to your city on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The law enforcement agencies serving Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster will each be hosting a National Night Out event in their cities. Each is free and open to the public.

Here’s what they have planned:

  • Garden Grove: There will be live demonstrations from the SWAT and K-9 units, family-friendly activities, a donut-eating contest, face-painting, drawings and giveaways. Residents will get the chance to meet beat patrol and crime prevention officers, as well as learn about neighborhood watch programs.The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. in front of the GGPD headquarters, 11301 Acacia Parkway.
  • Huntington Beach: Surf City’s event will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Huntington Beach Central Park (Goldenwest Street and Talbert Avenue). For more information, call (714) 536-5245.
  • Stanton: Police services here are provided by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Stanton Central Park (10660 Western Ave. Along with the police event, there will be a free concert from The Answer rock band.
  • Westminster: The parking lot of the Vons (formerly Pavilion) parking lot at 16450 Beach Blvd. will be the location of this event, held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. It will include a K-9 demonstration, music, a bounce house, games and more.
