The city council will consider a four-year contract with Chi at its meeting on Monday night. After four years, his employment will automatically be extended for one additional year until the city council votes not to extend his contract.

Chi has served as Monrovia’s top appointed official since October 2014. Before that, he was assistant city manager for Barstow from February 2011. He holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a masters’ in public administration from USC. He’s 39 years old.

If approved by the council – as expected – he will succeed Fred Wilson, who served for 10 years in that position. Chi will take office beginning on Sept. 30. His salary will start at $260,000 per year.
