BIKEWAYS and pedestrian paths are part of the City of Garden Grove’s plan for “active transportation” in the downtown area (City of Garden Grove photo).

The weather’s so nice now, it’s a good time to take a walk or ride a bike. The City of Garden Grove is making plans to make it easy all-year around with the development of an Active Downtown Plan for the city’s historic core and civic center.

“Downtown is experiencing milestone economic growth and development,” according to Mayor Steve Jones. “To keep pace and foster a lively and vibrant downtown, we must find ways to better connect our residents and visitors to the area.”

The ADP is made possible through a Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant to use alternative forms of getting around to improve the economy and livability in the area of Garden Grove Boulevard and Euclid Street.

A master plan from 2016 has identified possible improvements for bikeways and walking routes and consultant KOA Corporation will evaluate that plan and develop “engineering-level” concepts for future grant funding applications.

Stanton council to meet on Tuesday

A wide variety of topics are on the agenda for the Stanton City Council when it meets on Tuesday. Among them are:

• an agreement with DEDA to provide administrative services for residential rehabilitation projects in the city
• a resolution approving the final tract map for the development of 208 single family condominium units, private streets and private park area for a site at 12631-12811 Beach Blvd., formerly known as the Village Center
• safety and security improvements in the Stanton Family Resource Center.

The council will meet in its chambers in the City Hall at 7800 Katella Ave. at 6:30 p.m.

Chili Cook-Off will close Santa Rita Avenue

Santa Rita Avenue in West Garden Grove will be closed for part of the day on Saturday, Sept. 7 to accommodate the second annual Chili Cook-Off and Car Show.

The street will be blocked from through traffic between Winton Street and St. Mark Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will run from 12-3 p.m. at Eastgate Park, located west of Valley View Street at the western terminus of Chapman Avenue.
