Things are going from bad to ugly for the Los Angeles Angels. On Friday, they received the news that Shohei Ohtani, their two-way star, was finished for the season with surgery on his left knee.
And then, in the ballpark, the Halos suffered an 11-4 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays. It was their fifth straight loss and 11th in 13 games.
Not only were the Angels missing Ohtani, also sidelined are Mike Trout and Justin Upton. The only slugger left in the lineup, Kole Calhoun, did his best, though, slamming two home runs, his 30th and 31st of the season. He ended up with three RBIs.
Starter Andrew Heaney (4-5) worked 3.1 innings and was touched for 10 hits and six runs. He yielded three home runs and struck out three batters while walking none.
The Angels (67-81) will face the Rays (88-61) again on Saturday in Anaheim, with Jaime Barria (4-8) getting the start.
