Late A’s rally sends Angels to defeat

ANDREW HEANEY worked 5.1 strong innings against the Oakland A’s on Wednesday, but the Halos lost, 3-2 (Angels photo).

Once again, the bullpen is proving to be the Achilles’ heel of the Los Angeles Angels. On Wednesday night, the Oakland Athletics scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Halos, 3-2.

The Angels led 2-0 until Matt Chapman hit a two-run home run off Hansel Robles (5-1) to claim the win.  Andrew Heaney gave the Orange County team a chance to win with a solid starting pitching performance, working 5.1 innings and giving up six hits and one run. He struck out six and walked two.

After Heaney’s solid start, the Angels used seven relievers, who game up six hits, and struck out four batters.

Offensively, the Halos scored once each in the second and seventh innings. Taylor Ward had two hits and drove in one run.

The loss dropped the team record to 71-87, still in fourth place in the American League West. Today (Thursday) the team will start its final series of the 2019 season, with four games hosting the first place Houston Astros.
