Oilers advance to water polo semifinals

HUNTINGTON BEACH HIGH‘s boys water polo team advanced to the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals with a win over Orange Lutheran (Shutterstock).

Huntington Beach High’s boys water polo team advanced to the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals with an 11-5 victory Thursday over Lutheran High of Orange at Santiago Canyon College.

Chase Dodd scored four goals for the Oilers (18-8) and Jacob Pyle had 17 saves in goal for HBHS.  The orange-and-black will face Harvard-Westlake next on Wednesday.

Other CIF-SS water polo second round results:

  • Division 3: Santa Barbara 10, Edison 6.
  • Division 4: Pacifica 10, Esperanza 6.
  • Division 6: Garden Grove 8, Torrance 5
  • Whittier 16, Western 9.

Argo girls in CIF volleyball final

Garden Grove High School will host Desert Christian Academy on Saturday in the CIF-SS Division 7 final at 6 p.m.

The Argonauts hold a 28-8 record, while DCA’s Conquerors is 13-8. The visiting team is located in Bermuda Dunes.

Rancho, LQ win cross country finals

Rancho Alamitos won the boys Garden Grove League cross country finals, while La Quinta grabbed the girls title.
