Quick action to reap the financial benefits of an increase in the city’s transient occupancy tax – known as the “bed tax” – paid by guests at motels and hotels is on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Stanton City Council.
On Nov. 5 voters approved raising the tax from eight percent to 12 percent, a change which is expected to reap an additional $250,000 for city coffers. Tuesday’s recommended action is to begin collecting that tax on Jan. 1, 2020.
Also on the agenda are:
- the invocation of eminent domain to purchase property on Tina Way, east of Sherrill Street, to clear the way for development of a 161-unit multi-family affordable housing project;
- a review of potential modifications to Stanton Park for deter illegal activity.
The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in its chambers in City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave.
