The Stanton City Council on Tuesday passed three key items on its agenda.
By 4-0 votes – with one member absent – the council approved:
- designating Jan. 1, 2020 as the date that the increase in hotel and motel “bed tax” from eight percent to 12 percent will be collected;
- using the power of eminent domain to acquire property on the south side of Tina Way, east of Sherrill Street, to allow for the construction of a 161-unit multi-family affordable housing development;
- amending the municipal code with new language regarding public nuisances including graffiti, trespass, the advertising of illegal activity, street parking and tobacco retailer registration.
On a fourth item – a review of potential modifications to Stanton Park to deter illegal activity – the council referred the matter to the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission.
