A 61-year-old Huntington Beach woman sustained fatal injuries in a traffic accident Wednesday night in Huntington Beach.

According to Motor Sgt. Eric Warken of the HBPD, the crash took place in the area of Gothard Street and Center Drive, east of Golden West College, at around 9:25 p.m.

Arriving officers found a black 2013 Nissan Rogue in the roadway of Gothard, north of Center. The vehicle had sustained major damage to the front end. The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Westminster, remained at the scene and had suffered minor injuries.

Police believe the Nissan was traveling north on Gothard and then swerved into the south-bound lanes, crashing head-on into a silver 2016 Kia Soul, which also sustained major damage. The driver and a front seat passenger were injured, and a rear seat passenger suffered major internal injuries. She was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan was determined to be under the influence of alcohol.

An investigation into the crash and police are seeking information or video footage of the incident. Contact HBPD accident investigators at (714) 536-5666 or (714) 536-5670.
