A resolution calling on the Orange County Transit Authority to extend the under-construction OC Streetcar all the way into Anaheim was approved on Tuesday night by the Garden Grove City Council.

The council voted 6-0 – with Phat Bui absent due to illness – to urge the OCTA to start planning to add to the line which is now set to link Santa Ana to Garden Grove. Under the current project, the line will run from Santa Ana’s downtown transit center west and northwest along city streets and then up the former Pacific Electric right-of-way to a “transit hub” on Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove, north of Westminster Avenue.

The resolution calls for the agency to move towards expanding the OC Streetcar with a line north on Harbor, through Garden Grove’s hotel district and into Anaheim at Katella Avenue near the entrance to Disneyland.

Garden Grove Mayor Steve Jones was recently chosen as chair of the OCTA Board of Directors.

One resident asked the council to oppose the resolution on the grounds that he lives near the right-of-way and the noise of construction is excessive.
